My name’s Andy Turner, and I am a Professional cyclist racing for UCI Continental team Swift Carbon Pro Cycling. I am also a graduate Sports and Exercise Scientist, British Cycling qualified coach, qualified gym instructor and personal trainer. I have a great understanding of the physiological, psychological, biomechanical and nutritional demands of bicycle racing and work to help others achieve their goals even when balancing competition with a busy work and personal life.
I started racing back in 2014 after finishing my A-levels. I was not a regular exerciser, I was overweight and I have never considered competing in a sport with the aim of turning professional before. In my first race I got dropped in the first corner but persevered and kept on working.
Over the years I have worked with many sporting professionals and taken it upon myself to research all aspects of sports performance to try and improve myself. Each year I have learned more and each year I have achieved more.
In 2017 I started studying Sports and Exercise sciences so that I could further my knowledge even more. I also started coaching cyclists with their performances improving year on year. Studying at university while also working and competing at a national level gave me a great understanding of what is required to balance multiple thing alongside competitive sports without detriment to any aspect.
In 2019 I turned professional with Swift Carbon Pro Cycling, stood on the podium at a UCI race for the first time and got my first top-5 finish in a National A road race. I also became a British Cycling accredited coach.
In 2020 I achieved a 1st Class Hons degree in Sports and Exercise Sciences BSc along with being awarded the Alan Patrick Memorial Prize for academic excellence. I also qualified as a Gym Instructor, a British Cycling ride leader and a Level 3 Personal Trainer.
